The challenge
The project involved the construction of a brand new production facility and various alterations to existing facilities to meet the launch date of the new generation MINI. The project was to be delivered within a live manufacturing environment, to a complex schedule with stringent budget control. The demands of the project required a thorough contractor selection process for trade packages that ranged in size from a few thousand pounds to millions. The overall construction programme was 22 months.
The approach
ARCADIS AYH was first appointed as cost consultants on the project. Recognising the complexity and level of control that would be required, our team quickly established itself on site, at the centre of the project team and BMW Group's facilities department. This approach ensured that good communication and interface management was in place from the outset. The benefits of our proactive approach led to the extension of our role to encompass project management services.
The result
The project was a great success, production of the new generation MINI started on time and the project was delivered within budget. We now have a long term and strong working relationship with BMW Group that is testament to our client-focused approach. Subsequently we have been retained to cover additional projects to deliver further new models and increased volumes.
