Project surveyor, corporate accommodation sector
I studied quantity surveying at Anglia Polytechnic University and my life at ARCADIS AYH began as a work placement student in the commercial development sector where I gained fantastic experience in new build construction which proved really useful for my final year. After graduating I joined the corporate accommodation sector and worked on fit out projects for a large American investment bank. Later, I was assigned to in the North Bridge Building, now known as Highbury House, for Arsenal FC which involved the delivery of both the new build and fit out aspects of the project and was completed mid-2006.
I became involved in a large Category B fit out of 120,000 ft² in Central London for a large American corporate bank and was responsible for the overall management of the procurement of the sub-contract packages through the main contractor. This project was a mixture of open plan and cellular office space, restaurant, conference facility and executive area completed to a very high specification. As this project came to an end, I joined a diverse team selected from around Europe to implement a new methodology for managing construction projects for a large Belgian corporate. I am currently working up to 3 days a week in Brussels with a dedicated team of professionals working closely with the client.
I recently successfully completed my APC and I feel that I have been given a lot of scope to develop myself as a surveyor and to become involved with some interesting and unique projects.
